Read what your colleagues have said about National Surgery Review

I found the National Surgery Review course very helpful. I have several other review books but there were still some topics that were difficult for me to master. These same topics in the NSR materials, however, were organized in such an easy to understand way that it made it much easier for me to grasp. Since my program does not have access to many surgical specialists for lecture series, the video lectures were also useful to hear the way a specialist approaches a topic. This review course helped me improve my ABSITE score 50 percentile points between PGY2 and PGY3.

The National Surgery Review course has been the best resource I’ve used to prepare me for the ABSITE and boards. The lectures are packed with the most high yield information and clinically relevant material. Lecturers are clear, concise, and clarified many points that I’ve always found confusing. The printed syllabus is a perfect companion to the lectures and makes it easy to review the material. After using the course, I have the knowledge I need for the boards and know how to approach any written or oral question systematically. I highly recommend this course.

I have taken 4 live review courses during residency, read multiple ABSITE and board review books, and completed 2 question banks for boards/ABSITE. National Surgery Review course stands out because Dr. Dan chooses practicing surgeons within each area to comment on the essentials within that content area. Some review courses are all about making money, and one course I attended had a cardiothoracic surgeon giving a lecture on pediatric surgery which he never did outside of residency, and he made several critical errors. In the National Surgery Review course, I felt that each speaker was spot on. I did not find any errors in the NSR. I felt that the review course fit in nicely with my training and I am very glad to have attended.

National Surgery Review offers an excellent option when studying for the ABSITE exam. After reading a textbook I found it extremely helpful to go through the same topics on the review. They simplified every disease to the “what you need to know for the test”. They provide you video slides and audio of each topic, which allows you to sit down and study or even study on the go. It’s been my go to review for the last 2 years.
— Giovanni Ramos, M.D. PGY-4, Department of Surgery NYMC, Metropolitan Hospital
This was a well-written comprehensive review. I noticed an increase in my score from the previous year, greater than 25%. Additionally the book is a great resource that I
can continue to use for my clinical years to come. Thank you and I look forward toward next year’s review sessions.

I enjoyed the National Surgery Review Course. I think it covered a breadth of material with focus on the high yield topics. The topics are taught by specialists in their field which I feel is important for the most recent evidence based practice. The videos were of appropriate length and kept the watcher/listener engaged. In addition to the videos, the question bank was great. I was able to complete a video then answer questions pertaining to that topic. This allowed me to see where I needed additional help.

To supplement my studying, I chose to complete the online National Surgery Review course for the General Surgery qualifying exam. This course was instrumental to my success in passing my qualifying exam by providing me with high-yield information and techniques for reading through questions/answers on the actual exam.

The lectures were taught by experts in the field and provided me with relevant information to create my own study guides. I used the information gleaned from this course to guide my written and even oral board studying. Chosing the online study method was a good choice for me because I used the videos at my own pace to review material in a systems based approach. I felt that the emphasis on topics was reflective of the exam questions I was tested on.

I purchased the National Surgery Review during a training program shutdown due to the Covid pandemic. It was a great way to remain engaged in learning while being away from my clinical duties. It also helped me develop a framework for studying for my exam next year. The lectures are well organized by topics relevant to the general surgery resident. The lectures contained the critical information for studying and future practice, with no “fluff”, making it a good investment of time. For the most part, the audio quality was great... I have happily recommended this course to a number of my colleagues.
— Dr. Emily Mitic, PGY 4, Sudbury, ON, Canada

Well rounded presentations overall. I will be back to attend again. Will strongly recommend to my colleagues and residents. Kudos to Dr. Dan! What a marvelous job you have done for surgical education…Excellent faculty, relaxed learning & perfect timing.
— Sampath Kumar, MD
Excellent ABSITE and General Surgery Board Review course series. Highly recommend to those of us with little time to spare. The instructors are to the point, and the majority of them seem to have in-depth knowledge of what the must know materials are.

Overall course is very comprehensive…excellent speakers and well-focused content covered.
— National Surgery Review 2017 Review Course Attendee
As a practicing general surgeon, my time is important. The 4-day intensive General Surgery board review course was well-organized, efficient and covered all major tested topics.
— National Surgery Review 2016 Review Course Attendee
The majority of the lectures were amazing…Overall this course was great. Will definitely use again for my boards.
— National Surgery Review 2017 Review Course Attendee
I felt the course did a good job of weeding out the superfluous materials and focusing on board-tested materials.
— Emmett Lotton, MD
Organized and thorough review of topics that will be covered on the Absite exam.
— National Surgery Review 2017 Review Course Attendee
This course was very helpful in terms of my time management. Since most of the lectures are around an hour I could slot them into my schedule here and there throughout my week. I found them to be a useful resource and liked that I could also access the lectures on my ipad and phone through the app which was great when I had unexpected downtime.

After taking another very popular board review course during my chief year and taking National Surgery Board Review prior to my qualifying exam, there is no comparison of the two. Don’t trust any other board review company with your time or board preparation. National Surgery Board Review is the best. The faculty were excellent instructors and world-class experts in their fields.
— Wes Hendricks, DO
Excellent resource for preparing for the ABSITE exam, especially if you learn well with video lectures. Follows/ covers all the key learning objectives from SCORE. Helped me pass the ABSITE exam! The online video portal system is simple and user friendly. Will definitely purchase again for next year’s exam.
— 4th Year General Surgery Resident
National Surgery Review course is the first of its kind to provide surgical residents with video or audio lectures on a wide range of topics. The lectures were thorough and prepared me well for the ABSITE. I saw a drastic improvement in my score this year compared to last year.
— General Surgery Resident
The videos cover a good breadth of material. They are particularly helpful when trying to study at the end of a shift instead of reading tons of material you can just watch and listen. The question bank reflects the material. I’m looking forward to the new app revision with the additional operative videos that will be coming soon.
— Tommy Brown, MD
The National Surgery Review course was very beneficial in my training. It was great to review prior to big cases and/or a quick refresher prior to a rotation starting. I also really liked the workbook [syllabus] provided and found it helpful to take notes as I listened to the lectures.
